About Sea_Washed
The story began one sunny afternoon in the Cornish seaside village of Gwithian. Fresh from a mid-morning surf and with a new resolve to live life better, we began planning our escape from the fast-fashion carousel once and for all. Having spent years working as product developers for well known fashion brands in London we were all too familiar with the way green-washing pervaded the industry and had become disenchanted by the unyielding commitment to corporate profit over sustainability. We decided to spend all our free time building the foundations for a clothing label that had minimal impact on the environment and a morally responsible soul. The idea wasn’t as simple as it sounded but the name was easy; Sea_Washed was born.
"Sea_Washed speaks to our true love, the Sea - that feeling of riding a perfect wave or the invigorating afterglow of an early morning swim amongst the surf."
No sooner had the idea been conceived of, and research begun, there was an unforeseen halt to momentum with the onset of the Covid19 crisis. However, what was initially thought of as a set-back, turned out to be a blessing as it forced us to hunker down and throw ourselves deeper into our research. Factory owners and garment technologists all over the world now had time on their hands to answer our questions and fill the gaps in our knowledge. We knew all about the plastic pollution in our seas, having witnessed it first hand and we also knew how it could be repurposed to create high functioning products, such as swimwear. Recycled fabrics are an important way in which we can significantly reduce waste and remove it from our seas and oceans, by creating hardy products that have longevity built in. The waste already exists in abundance, much of it caused by the garment industry itself, so we knew that one focus of our project would be to repurpose it to make beautiful, highly durable and long-lasting swimwear. Textile re-use and recycling preserves textile fibres within the circular economy and saves the equivalent of up to 98% CO2 when compared to the use of virgin materials. Our swimwear base fabrics are created from 82% recycled fibres and are limited to a maximum of two components, making it easy to separate them again during the recycling process at the end of their life.
All Sea_Washed swimsuits are reversible, halving the energy required to produce the range and doubling the value of each item to you.
When it came to designing our on-shore collection, including T-shirts and sweaters we knew that we wanted the focus to be on organic, plant based fabrics which are less environmentally harmful to produce and also fully biodegradable. This means that at the end of their life, as long as they are not combined with any other synthetic fibres during the production process, they will eventually decompose without a trace. This is why our clothing is created from 100% pure organic cotton and all Sea_Washed T-shirts and sweaters carry the GOTS certification, the globally recognised gold standard for verifiable, consciously produced, organic cotton.
Our first collection of limited edition Sea_Washed Tees were made available via a select group of independent retailers in 2025 after which we launched our own dedicated website where you can shop our must-have items.
As Sea_Washed is a slow-fashion company we are not seasonal or trend led and our production runs are small and limited. If you cannot find what you are looking for please email our customer care team as we operate a waiting list service and we can also assist in locating items at one of our retail partners.
We believe in quality over quantity and are proud to be a small, self funded company with a dedicated mission. Every purchase made via Sea_Washed.co.uk puts a smile on our face and hopefully yours too. We value and appreciate your support.
